Huma Qureshi Opens Up About Facing Body-Shaming By The Media; Recalls, ‘She's 5 Kgs Too Heavy To Be A Mainstream Heroine’
It is a well-known fact that society has a hard time accepting others who are not conventionally pretty. While the battle to break-out of the set stereotypes it is the actresses who have to go through a lot of criticisms, one of them being Huma Qureshi. Over the years, she has proved her mettle with versatile performances however she has time-and-again been mocked by the netizens as well as the media for her physical appearance. She recently spoke about the same during an interaction.

Shedding light on the body-shaming experiences she had to go through during the initial phases of her career, Huma told Barkha Dutt that she went through a really dark phase in her 20s. In the interview for Mojo Story, she expressed how after gathering enough courage she had addressed what she went through during her magazine interviews, She revealed that she had the urge to pull up her old articles and showing it to the people who wrote it while saying, “This is what you do to a young person who is trying to make it in her 20s.” ALSO READ: EXCLUSIVE! The 36-year-old actress went on to recall how mean things were written about her body in various articles. Mentioning the same she said, “‘What is she wearing’, ‘Look at her knees and her calves’ zooming on certain body parts and circling them and many more.” Huma goes on to mention that growing up kids in Mumbai might have been used to hearing such criticism from their parents and friends, she was not. The Monica, O My Darling actress went on to share that many people would often suggest that she lose weight, go under the knife or even undergo liposuction surgery. Recalling a film reviewer’s comment on how she needs to lose weight to be considered a mainstream heroine, she said, “She's such a lovely fine actress with a beautiful face, but maybe she's 5 kgs too heavy to be a mainstream heroine.” She went on to add how she felt sad and couldn’t stop sobbing after reading that harsh statement.

Having impressed the audience with movies like Gangs Of Wasseypur, Badlapur, Ek Thi Daayan, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, Monica, O My Darling, Huma was recently seen in the ZEE5 film Tarla. A biopic on the life of the iconic food writer Tarla Dalal, the movie also stars Sharib Hashim. On the other hand, she has started shooting for the third season of her acclaimed web-series Maharani.
